Course Description
The Course aims at understanding in depth the concepts of quality
& its evolution as a major aspect of competition. It also describes
quality as proposed by various Management thinkers worldwide who had
played a significant role in giving the concepts of quality its present
form. Moreover, the course focuses on the concepts of Total Quality
Management beginning with its scope, the principles that it is based
upon followed by its Managerial perspective. In the next chapter, course
explains the Statistical Process Control Charts and other QC
techniques. This is followed by highlighting the TQM tools incorporated
in the industry and the systems like Kaizen, lean, poka-yoke, etc. and
their utility in the quality improvement. The final part of the course
deals with the Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and its need in the
industries worldwide. Also, concept of six sigma is discussed briefly
to get an idea upon its applicability in the world of quality.
This
subject of Total quality management encompasses all aspects of business
connected with TQM. Its key concepts are emphasis on management
commitment; focus on the customer, involvement of all stakeholders
associated with the firm, continuous improvement, treating suppliers as
partners and performance metrics. The objective of this course is to
give a global vision about the Total Quality Management concept, and the
most important related ideas. Some case studies are also included to
enhance the concept of total quality management. Hence learning this
course would enable the students to understand the role of quality and
TQM across the industries (manufacturing or service). Moreover, it would
be a stepping stone for them to become a quality professional. It would
also clear the vagueness on the concept of quality and its
applicability to our day to day lives.
